Just Right For A Preferred Retirement Income Stream, new era 59fifty
MolyCorp (MCP) is a development stage company, gorras planas new era, focused on the production and sale of rare earth oxides in the western hemisphere. The company operates the Mountain Pass mine, new era baratas, a non Chinese rare earth deposit located in San Bernardino County, new era spain, California. MolyCorp is in the mining and materials sector which is an area on my hot list for 2012. MolyCorp pricing has been sliding lately, new era outlet, with pricing lowered from an August high of $65 to today's price of $33. The company does not offer a dividend and has a market cap of $2.6Billion. Their primary competitors are Chinese.
Normally in a retirement portfolio a business such as MolyCorp would not be prioritised due to its lack of dividend. With all the macro environment turmoil pounding the market, gorras new era, I have been expanding my research for yield while not compromising my criteria. Although MolyCorp common shares do not meet my criteria, tallas new era, their preferred offering does. MolyCorp Inc Preferred Convertible Series A stock currently trades at $69 down from a high of $142. The stock is a coupon type, gorras planas new era, paying a guaranteed rate of 5.50%. MolyCorp recently announced a dividend payment of $1.37,gorras new era madrid, representing an 8.5% analyzed dividend yield per share payable on December 1,new era madrid, 2011. Important to my decision was that it is not callable and redeems for common shares in 2014 with a predefined transfer rate of 2 shares, gorras new era baratas, if common shares are under $50 and 1.66 shares if over $60.
Since this is a preferred offering I was interested not only in the yield but also how the preferred shares track when compared to the underlying stock. Interestingly the preferred shares demonstrate near perfect correlation with the common shares on a percentage basis. This is important since it allows the capture of gains on the share price in lockstep with company share performance. If the price climbs to a point where it doesn't make sense to wait until 2014 it can be sold. If the price stays down or moderately declines I earn the 5.5% dividend as a minimum, new era outlet, and capture any share value increase as a bonus. In the current market this is a compelling option. I do believe that over the next two years demand for rare earth materials will grow as they are required elements in technology manufacturing.
Because of the strong dividend and the two year timeline, new era espaƱa, I anticipate scaling into MolyCorp Preferred when prices dip below $65, building my position. The advantage of the preferred verses the common shares is that I get paid to wait while MolyCorp builds their business and increases efficiency. Their objective is to become the global low cost leader. Global demand for rare earth metals is high. There is not enough supply to meet demand and material pricing has defined a range which makes anticipating margin more accurate in the upcoming two years than it has been in the past.
I have been overweighting materials, industrial, mining and oil companies in my retirement portfolio, getting ready for a more healthy global economy. MolyCorp fits this objective and I earn a guaranteed rate. I will keep my finger on the sell trigger and lock in profit if the price climbs to a point where selling is too compelling and decrease my risk and exposure.
